Final examssssssss!!!!!!!! - - :( :( :(

One more week to goooo!!!
Just one more week!!!
But...it is not an easy week because it is the final week. - -
All the final exams....comprehensive....

I have 4 exams...2 are comprehensive and 3 essays... - -

Anyway, GOOD LUCK WITH ALL OF YOUR FINALS AND HAVE A GREAT SUMMER!!

A week before the final week! Looking back at the project!

I still have the English book that Dr.Williams gave me. I still have the word file about basic steps to learn how to use a computer stored in my student drive. However, I still have not had a chance to use them since I prepared for it.

It has been a week since I came to the library to wait for Alicia, my partner for the community service project. I haven't heard or recieved anycall from her since then. It was a bit disappointed for me because I prepared so well for it, I put lot of effort to the project but...

In the beginning of the semester, everything went really well and I believed that Alicia and me would had such a great time. However, toward the end, when more and more things needed to be done before the end of the semester, we could not keep up our meetings. Maybe she was busy with her works because he had 2 jobs and Friday at 5pm may not be a good time for her. She might feel tired at that time, after a hard-working week. Maybe she had something to do with her family.

However, I still believe that what we have achieved so far is not bad at all. She now has her username and password to login to the computer. She now can use the computer to check the weather and read the news. Our meeting has been productive and I am happy with it. However, there are still a lot more that I can do her her, a lot more that I can help her. I can help her more with her English, I can help her more with the computer.

Looking back, I am happy with the results my partner and I have achieved. I wish her all the best and if I have the same project in the future, I wish that I can work with her again and I will do even better then what I have done!

Fifth Meeting with my partner!! Oopps!!

Last week, Alicia and me had such a "good meeting" for our community service project because it was Good Friday. I hope that she had a great time with her family for Good Friday and Easter. I was so excited about our fifth meeting after Good Friday. I borrowed the English book from Dr.Williams so that I could teach her more about English. I also did some research about basic steps to learn how to use a computer such as typing exercises or how to use a program. I believed that this meeting would be such a productive meeting as usual.

I was wearing a polo shirt and short with my favourite Adidas shoes. The weather was nice with little wind and sun shine. Around 4:55pm, I came to the library. I wanted to come early so that I could prepare the seats and the computers for both of us. There were not many people in the library as you knew because it was Friday and 5 pm. Everyone should be at home at this time.

I was waiting for her for 10 mins. I was wondering "Oops! is there any posibility that she forgets our meeting?" So I took my phone out of my pocket and look for her number. There it was "Alicia Nava - community service". I called her.

Ring...ring...ring........

Ring...ring...ring.......

I called her twice but she didn't pick up her phone so I left her a message.

I was a bit sad about it because I was well-prepared for the meeting but she didn't show up. Maybe she had something to do with her family. Maybe she forgot about the meeting.

Well, I left the library at 5:30 pm and was looking forward to see her next week...

Good Friday!!!

This week, it is Good Friday. Thus, we did not meet this week.

I wish her have a great time with her family.

I have been in the U.S for 2 years, but I haven't been to any American family to have the "Good Friday" or "Easter" or even "Thanksgiving" atmosphere. Haizz, I will do it one day ^^

Anyway, I went to Houston with my friends on Good Friday to come to the Vietnamese students association's conference in Houston. (It was Houston again and again....and again....I don't remember how many times I went to Houston.....Next time I'll go somewhere else.)

I had fun with my friends over there. The performances were good. The performances were made by the students so it was fun to watch.

I came back to Fort Worth on Saturday evening, had a good sleep and ready for next week.

Fourth meeting with my partner!

Last week, I believe that Alicia and me had such a productive meeting. She now has her username and passowrd to be able to login the computer and use the internet. Moreover, from now on, even if she forgets her password, she is still able to reset her password without typing her social security number again. All she needs to do is answering the questions that she chose.
This week, we kind of took our time to review and looked back at what we have done so far this semester because she had something to do with her family, so she needed to leave early.
At first, she used her username and password to login to the computer. Then she went to the internet icon (E) to surf the weather website or the news websites. She still didn't move the mouse into the place that she wanted. However, I told her that "don't worry about that and be patient. The more you use the computer, the more you wil lbe familiar with it."
After that, we had a small talk about next week. I wish her have a good time with her family because next Friday is Good Friday.

One day, I had nothing to do (so it was probably Friday night or Saturday, I don't remember exactly - -), I was surfing on the internet and talking to my friends through Yahoo messenger!

Third meeting with my partner ^^

I always believe that Friday at 5pm is a good time for both of us, Alicia and me, to have the meeting because it is the time that I finish school, she finishes her work and we are ready for the weekend. It might be a bad time as well because we might be lazy after a hard-working week. However, we have done a great job so far. Our project has been really productive we both satisfy with it.

Last time, Alicia was not able to log in the computer because she does not know her TCU username and password and at that time, there was no one at the computer help desk. This week, I ask one of my friends who works at the help desk to help her out. His name is Kevin and he was really patient helping my partner. He showed her step by step how to reset her username, and then reset her password. Alicia is not good with computer, thus it took her long time to finish the whole process. Especially, when it asked her to type her social security number, me and Kevin were not able to stand next to her to help her and it asked her to type her SSN twice. Therefore, it took her like three or four times to complete. Finally, I chose the password for her to save some time.
After, she got her username and password, now she was able to login to the computer by herself. I could see how happy and satisfied she was when she smiled at me, because from now on she could use the school computer to reading news and do her things.

Spring Break!!!!!!!

Leaving behind all the exams, mid-term essays ^^, group meetings, all nighters, waking up early in the morning, running to the writing center, etc, etc, etc….It’s Spring break!!! Finally, I had one whole week to relax, eat, sleep, and go to Houston. My friends and I did not really decide where to go for Spring Break until the Friday right before Spring Break. We usually don’t make any plan for it. “The plan is no plan.” Maybe because we had many home works to take care. We usually come up with many different places for a vacation: Las Vegas, Louisiana, Colorado, etc but it always ends up in Houston.
We like to go to Houston because we have bunch of friends over there so we don’t need to worry about the place. There are also good prices and good clothing for shopping. However, the most important thing is that in Houston, there are many good Vietnamese restaurants.
As other times, we started to go around 9:00pm so we could get there around 1:00am. Have a good sleep and enjoy the next day. We went to eat a lot of Vietnamese food there. There is only one thing that concerns me the most is that in Houston, they are all using cash and they not accept any credit cards - -.

During this trip, one thing that I remember the most is that when I went to the Galleria with my friends for shopping, I had a really awesome chance to see a Rolls Royce Phantom. I never saw that million beautiful car before by my eyes. It looked much more beautiful than in the picture. I wish that one day I can have one for my own.
Vacation time always flies. It passed so fast. It was Friday and we needed to go back to prepare for school. Haiiiiiii!! Time to study again….However, I have another encouragement that only two more months and it will be Summer!!!!

Second meeting with my partner Alicia

After the first meeting with my partner Alicia, I believe that we will have a great semester learning new things with each other because when I teach her English or about computer, I actually learn for myself as well. So this time, I showed her how to use computer because last time when we had our first meeting, she told me that she hardly knew anything about computer and she would love to learn about it. Feeww!! I don’t want to say that I’m an expert in computer but I’m good at it so I believe that I can help her a lot with my skills.
“So first of all, you need to log in to the computer .” I said
“But I don’t remember my …username ….and ….password.” She answered slowly
“Well, it’s 5 pm on Friday so the people who work at the help desk left already” I told her

Thus, I used my username and password to log in. However, before that I showed her how to turn on a computer and how to log in. Then I taught her how to move the mouse and click on the icon. She is a hard working person. She knows that she is not good at it, so she always tries her best and repeats the steps many times to remember. I really like her attitude effort. I was saying to myself “look at her and learn from her. I need to work as hard as her to get a better result for my works.”

Then I showed her how to use google to find anything that she wants by typing the main words. I showed her how to read the news and weather by typing the websites name or google it. Sometimes, I found it difficult for us to understand each other because of the computer’s language. However, with patience and the will to learn, we actually achieved a productive result at the end.

I was really happy because I could help my partner how to use the computer. Nowadays, computer is extremely important. I believe that with her attitude and effort, she will be good at computer and have good use of it. However, I need to help her with the username and passord first!! ^^

First meeting with Alicia Nava

My first meeting with my partner Alicia Nava for the community service was truly successful. I did the same project last semester so this time I know how to make it better with more productive and achieving a better result. I went to the library at 4:50pm (because we agreed to meet at 5pm, I just wanted to be prepare so I came early) at the lobby and was waiting for Nava. Here she comes! The first time I saw her, I knew that she was Nava because she was wearing the physical plant uniform. She came exactly at 5:00pm; she made her first impression with me.
This was our first meeting so basically, we tried to know more about each other because we would work with each other for the next 11 weeks. She told me that she would love to go by Alicia than Nava so I call her Alicia from now on. She is from Mexico and came to the U.S. 30 years ago. Wow! That is such a long time. She has been living at Fort Worth since then and she still has her relatives in Mexico. She usually comes back to visit them when she has long break such as Christmas or summer. However, the fact that she has been working for TCU for 15 years even made me more surprising. 15 years at TCU, she has experienced many changes within the school and many differences since then. Right now, her job is housekeeping at Waits. She is married and she has 3 children, two girls and one boy. Her boy is studying at TCU since last semester. She has the same hobby as me soccer. She loves soccer and we were talking about different soccer teams in Latin America.

She is an easy going and open-minded person. We laughed all the time. She told me that she came to the U.S. for 30 years but she hardly knew anything about computer. I told her that I would do my best to help her to be good at computer after this semester.
I expected that it would be a successful meeting but actually I went beyond my expectation. Last semester, I had problems with my partners and sometimes it made me frustrated. However, this semester, I believe that I will have a wonderful and successful project with my partner.
